I happen to like Joseph Abboud and if you know anything about the man and his past work, the line is what you would expect it to be-updates on the classics. I wouldn't go so far as to put clothing from Black Brown 1826 (from Lord & Taylor) in the same class as Brooks Brothers main lines (that would be excluding black fleece etc., obviously), but I find they compliment very well the needs of those of us for whom frequently look to BB for our next... Neutrals-defined here as black, white, grey, and tan- are the 'blank canvas' of menswear. These blend well with just about any color, and work well color combination of their own. Some cream trousers, grey cashmere sweater, white shirt, a brown knit tie can look particularly chic for a evening out in Northern California!

Outfit Pairings Or brown shoes with a black suit. Armani, and some other designers have some suits, coats and pants that are kind of a brown/black combo. Black shoes might go with those. I had a suit which to the eye looked like alternating bands of black and brown. It may have technically been two shades of brown, but the overall effect looked more like black ... I like brown and charcoal fine, but, in my book, the black jacket is a deal breaker for brown shoes.
The combination seems very schizophrenic -- the black/charcoal very severe, the brown very warm. The vest would help, I imagine, but I'm still having trouble envisioning it. If you really like the combo, what about going with a light gray trouser? I know black and brown are not to be mixed, and I'm generally pretty meticulous about this point; however in specific careful situations it works.
